On Garlic Linguine, or "Every Now and Again, a Win"

Cast aside the disappointments of the weekend. Let go of your pessimism. Release your discouragement into the sticky summer night. Hold fast to garlic, and to pasta, and at last, to satisfaction.

Water bubbles, well-salted, ready for linguine.

The frying pan sits at the ready, warming a knob of butter, a drizzle of olive oil, and a pinch of red pepper flakes.

Pasta nears its finish. Half a clove of garlic, grated, makes the acquaintance of the pan and butter. Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle.

Linguine, pasta water, pepper. Plates. Parmesan.

And capers, O!

Victory, long-awaited.
